THE VINE

When the world stopped for many on March 13, 2020, my world had completely turned on its head just over a month before. All my plans for my life had come to a grinding halt as I navigated a broken near-engagement. It was whiplash - "'til death do us part" to empty hands and no plans. A mid-February visit to Longwood Gardens under the wing of a dear friend taught me to look for hope in new life through the early buds on the trees. Nature resting but not abandoned; dormant but preparing for new growth.

Spring came. Trees blossomed. Neighborhoods filled with walkers waving and crossing the street to sensitively distance themselves from a passerby. His faithfulness continues, evidenced in the seasons through seed[thyme] and harvest (Genesis 8:22).

Jesus' analogy of the vine in John 15 paints the image of growth through pruning. The dead and even living branches sheered off to make way for "much." The last several years of my life have cycled around this imagery.

Those springtime walks became the foundation of my desire for God, my pursuit of a life abiding in him and him abiding in me. The unchanging, steadfast nature of his very character and his sacrificial love for his people are the roots from which Seedthyme exists.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND

Early on in my college years in Elementary Education, I discovered my passion for interconnected learning. I set out to write interdisciplinary curriculum for my Honors Thesis project and had just started to develop a scope and sequence when the pandemic hit.

I took a year off of traditional collegiate studies to participate in an outdoor adventure and discipleship program (LIFT, at Camp-of-the-Woods) where I nurtured my love for nature and got to teach and lead music for their Kids Klub summer programs. After that year, I student-taught after the haze of masks and Covid restrictions blew over, finished my degree at Cairn University, and started teaching at a local Christian School where I taught for three years.

My longing to connect interdisciplinary learning and outdoor education experiences grew during those years. I stumbled upon the work and philosophy of Charlotte Mason, and I began to develop an vision for serving the homeschool community through nature-rich, Christ-centered enrichment and educational programs.

If you're a local homeschool parent, I'd love to connect with you at seedthyme.org/school . :)
